Roger “Doc” Jacob Beal was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend to everyone he met. He left this world too soon on December 17, 2020 at the age of 67 after a very brief battle with biliary tract and liver cancer.

He was born to parents, John Clyde Beal and Ruth Gieseke Beal, on December 30, 1952 in Sweetwater, Texas. Roger played football for Spring Woods High School and later attended the University of Houston in Houston, Texas. He went to Cleveland, Ohio and attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Beal settled in San Antonio, Texas where he began his career as a podiatrist and opened his private practice. He had a warm and caring disposition which easily made him a favorite doctor to all of his patients who he served graciously for over 40 years.

Doc married the love of his life, Barbara Beal, on February 14, 1986. They were married for 34 years and share two wonderful children. In addition to being a devoted father, he was a dedicated and loyal volunteer with the San Antonio Livestock Exposition for many years and was a Life Member. Doc served as a Major in the US Army Reserves and was called to active duty and served during Desert Shield. In the 1980’s he volunteered with the local chapter of the March of Dimes as well as served as president of the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association. He was a past instructor of CPR with the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross. He was also a proud supporter of Texas Public Radio. His hobbies included hiking, cycling, bowling, travel, reading and golf.

Doc is survived by and will be deeply missed by his wife, Barbara Beal; his daughter, Angel (Scott) Bateman, his son, Jacob (Melissa) Beal; his siblings Vickey Roberts, Skip Roesner, Margaret McDonnel, Kristina Tims and sister in law Lynda Beal; his grandchildren Jackson and Emily Bateman and Judy and James Beal as well as many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father John Clyde Beal, his mother Ruth Gieseke Roesner, his stepfather Earl Roesner and his brother Bruce Beal.
