Brent Bower, age 60, of Waco, succumbed to the depression he had suffered from for many years on Thursday, September 12, 2013. A celebration of his life will be 5:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at Sixth and Adams Church of Christ under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Jon Mark Smith officiating.

Brent was born July 5, 1953, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of the late Frank M. and Mary Russell Bower. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University of Houston with a Bachelor’s in English. He received departmental honors in both Latin and Greek. He went back to school at Stephen F. Austin, taking only the required courses to enable him to take the CPA exam. He passed all four parts of it on the first try in an era before calculators were allowed.

On January 1, 1983, he married Patricia Katharyn Lowry in Galveston, Texas. They had two daughters, Kathryn Elizabeth and Kristina Maryann. After working in Nacogdoches and Tyler, he and his family moved to Waco in 2000. He worked for the City of McGregor for the past four years as their Director of Finance. Brent was a member of the American Accounting Association, MENSA, and a life member of the NRA. He enjoyed reading, all types of music, playing the guitar, shooting, and spending time with his family.

Preceding him in death was his sister, Karen Duncan.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of thirty years; two daughters, Katie Bower and husband Joshua Wilson of Maryland; Kristi Bower of Waco; a brother, Tom Bower and wife Belinda of Georgia; and a sister, Jane Waters of Oklahoma.
