This is a pretty old obituary, but I want to thank Mark Wohlbier for notifying me.
SUMMER LEE (SMITH) CONSTABLE, 52, died suddenly and peacefully of a cardiac event in her home on Thursday, November 17, 2005. She was a kind soul, a wonderful woman, and a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend. Summer graduated from Spring Woods High in 1971. She began working as a secretary in the surgical unit at Spring Branch Medical Center, which was her second home for all her adult life. While raising a child and working full time, she also obtained a number of nursing degrees. She worked as an operating room nurse for many years, and later went back to school to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse anesthetist. Summer obtained her Masters of Nursing in Anesthesia in May of 1997 from the University of Texas. She returned to work at Spring Branch one more time, where she was loved, respected and praised by doctors and colleagues throughout the hospital. Nature was one of Summer's greatest passions. She loved animals and plants, but her special fascination was with the sea. During her lifetime, she traveled throughout the world and was amazed by the beauty she saw. Whether it was a visit to the ancient pyramids in Egypt, a gondola ride through the canals of Venice, a drive through Provence and the wine country of France, or a deep-sea dive off the Island of Palau, she embraced the majesty of this great world and all living creatures. Our beloved Summer's legacy will live on in the lives of her family and friends. She is survived by her parents, LtCol Robert L. & Mrs. Eleanor J. Smith, her brothers, Ken and Kevin, her daughter, Sammi (Constable) Hicks, her son-in-law, Marine Major John B. Hicks, her granddaughters, Ashley June (6), Reagan Kathleen (3), and Katie Mae (2), and her very best friend, Horacio. Services will be held on Monday, 4p.m. at Waltrip Funeral Directors in Houston. In Lieu of flowers, please feel free to contribute to the charity of your choice, especially those related to nature and the environment.
